I Overheard a Rich Woman's Phone Call—And Learned 4 Marketing Lessons

Today I happened to sit next to a rich woman I don't know.
I overheard a phone conversation between
this lady and her relative.
The man asked his aunt if his family could
visit her this holiday. He wanted to know if her family had time.
The lady politely said that they would travel
to a place to enjoy the holiday.
Her family wouldn't be home to welcome him.
Then they said goodbye and hung up.
She then immediately called her husband to tell him
that if the man called, he should just tell him exactly the "holiday plan."
She clearly doesn't want to meet that relative.
She probably knew he would ask for a favor
that she would say no to—but she'd rather say
no by not giving him the chance to ask than tell him to his face.
The relative guy doesn't seem to visit
the rich lady very often—only when he has something to ask.
So there are three marketing lessons here:
#1: Build a relationship before you start
selling something to your prospects.
#2: Start the relationship when you need the prospect
the least so you don't come across as needy.
#3: Consistently contact your prospects.
Don't only reach out when you have something to sell.
#4: Add free value to your prospect's life and
business so you position yourself as a high-status person.
